Summary: Very exciting, if lacking in spirit.
This was a really fun movie. Benedict Cumberbatch played an awesome Khan, he really gave it all its worth. And Quinto is brilliant as a young Spock. So it's a really good movie. I would not excellent, in that the movie was pretty much a rehash of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which was very disappointing. They are reprising this story without the years of history in the Kirk/Spock relationship; as well as Kirk with his crew. And similar to the previous movie, Kirk is portrayed as this lucky hero, whereas in the historical canon, he had long and storied career. Sure, he was the youngest to command a starship, but that still implied years of experience post-Academy. It's just absurd that these kids are leading a starship. Thankfully at least the Scotty and Bones characters had some history prior to Academy, so their actions are at least believable. I'm sure they'll do another sequel etc but I would rather they develop new characters and a new TV show instead of trampling on the history of the best characters.
